Art Teacher B.A. Art Teaching Option, History Teaching Option
Hello! My name is Jenelle Mehling and I am beyond excited to begin my career in teaching. I teach art at Skyview High School, Go Falcons!. I grew up in Billings and attended Bench Elementary, Castle Rock Middle School, and am alumni of Skyview High School. I am looking forward to serving Billings Public Schools and getting the opportunity to work with our great kids. I have also worked as a cake decorator for 9 years and enjoy doing ice cream cakes, wedding cakes, and baking delicious desserts. My personal interests include an array of hobbies and activivites. In art I specialize in painting ( acrylic, oil, watercolor), drawing, lithography and photography. I also have expereicne in ceramics and jewelry. Art has always held a special place in my heart and can't imagine life without creating and solving and mastering various projects and mediums. It isn't always about the finished product, but instead in what you learn during the process. I grew up figure skating here in Billings and skated competitively for over 16 years. I have taught all ages how to skate and continue to get on the ice whenever I can. The rink will always be my second home. More recently my two main passions are golf and hunting. I have discovered the love and need to be outdoors. I went to hit a bucket of balls two years ago and have hardly been able to put down a club. I have been an assistant golf coach for 2 years for the Billings Central Catholic Rams and have learned so much from those great kids. I also picked up hunting within the last couple of years and enjoy being out in the wild, the quiet and the calm. Everyday is a success, even coming home empty handed. It is about the bonding, the stories shared and memories cherished. Beyond art, I hold a double major in History education as well. I love the idea of time and learning from the past and developing the future. Sharing various cultures, stories, and perspectives is deeply important to me in art and in the social studies. A few of my favorite sujbects and eras include Native American Studies, WWII, The American Western Expansion, Ancient Roman and Egyptian History, and the list goes on... Finally I am extremely family oriented and cherish every moment I get to spend with them. From telling stories with Grandpa, cooking with Grandma, going to the baseball game with mom, golfing with my stepdad, snowboarding with my Uncle and cousins, tutoring my little cousin, or visiting with my numerous great Aunts and Uncles, I couldnt imagine my life without each and every one of them. I would not be the open-minded, well rounded person I am today without their endearing influenece and unrelenting love. I wish to continue this bond with my students, my class will be my family. We will treat each other with love and respect, as art is an expressive class where we each deserve to feel comfortable and confident in expressing our thoughts, opinions and unique creations.
